I was a GCSE Science Examiner for several years - involved in finalising the mark scheme and marking GCSE Science Papers. This experience has helped me to understand the importance of good exam technique and how easily marks are lost, even by able pupils, simply through not understanding the way exam questions work, or what the examiner is requiring. I am convinced that good exam technique makes a significant difference.
I have taught science for over 30 years and enjoy explaining science in a clearer way, helping understanding. These days so many teachers haven't got the time to slow down and explain things carefully in a different way for different students, leaving even quite able students feeling confused, lacking confidence and stressed. We can work at your pace and go over topics you aren't sure of more carefully.
I tutor online.
I have over 30 years experience of teaching secondary science. In addition I was a GCSE examiner for several years – involved in finalising the mark scheme and marking GCSE papers.
There are many people who teach science – I teach pupils. The tuition is adapted for each individual pupil's needs.
I don’t just impart knowledge, I’m interested in seeing the reaction of the pupil. Have they understood it? Or are they still not sure? They may say they understand, but that isn’t always accurate. Moving on too quickly is not helpful and will leave them confused and disheartened – the last thing you want. Equally, you don’t want the pace to be too slow. This understanding can vary from topic to topic, even with bright students who might not have fully understood one particular point.
Pupils need to learn HOW to learn - vital skills that need training and development, but which equip them for life.
Giving pupils the information about Biology, Chemistry and Physics and explaining it is very important - and so are developing learning techniques and exam techniques. All three need to be included in successful preparation for exams.
Also, importantly, I use the latest textbooks for your particular Exam board. Each board varies in content, style and exam questions. Using the specific textbooks makes sure you are thoroughly prepared for your exams.
