I received the Rhodes Scholarship, which is known to be the most prestigious scholarship in the world, to pursue higher studies at the University of Oxford. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Anthropology at the University of Oxford. I recently completed my MPhil at Oxford, graduating with a high distinction in my thesis. Previously, I have studied sociology and philosophy at the University of Delhi, and graduated with first class honours. I have been writing poetry, scripts and short stories, and performing spoken word for the past eight years, and using the forum to explore my academic concerns in a creative and engaging manner.
I have previously taught English, History and Public Speaking at government schools and orphanages in New Delhi, using creative appraoches and tools from theatre. I also spent two months in Port Maria, Jamaica, where I taught English and helped in the shaping of the curriculum to include more local texts and authors, as part of the TEACH project.
While my approach would differ from tutee to tutee, I will seek to craft a balance between a rigorous understanding of the text and playing around with more creative and critical modes of engagement. Having received a 100% in my Psychology examination and 95% in my Sociology examination in 12th grade, I have realised that the true understanding of conceptual frameworks and theoretical debates can only be achieved by exploring each idea in detail, using a range of devices, such as personal anecdotes, subjective reasoning, visual representations, web-charts etc. Furthermore, my preparation for the Rhodes Scholarship interview allowed me to craft a toolbox that would help prepare for interviews, application processes for Ox-bridge. My tutoring approach would therefore involve a strong personal engagement with the tutee in order to meaningfully respond to his/her distinct needs and learning styles, and craft an appropriate framework.
