Now accepting new students for the new academic year. New appointments being made all the time so act quickly. Sociologists ... for some reason the Politicians move a bit faster and I'd love some local sociology next year so don't delay!

Exam Results 2018 - School

Politics VA +0.34 (Legacy Spec)
Sociology VA +0.94

Exams Results 2019 - School

Politics VA +0.28 (New Spec)
Sociology VA +0.48

A quick guide to value added. Negative value - bad. Zero - where a student should be. Positive value - student exceeds potential.

Average grade - A

I am recgonised by the DfE as being an outstanding practitioner in the field of A Level Sociology as i have 20 years of continuous positive value in the subject.

Taking on new appointments for the 2019/20 academic year. There is limited availability during the week for local students and a longer slot fortnightly for a student further afield. So get in touch and i'll see what i can do for you!

I am a fully qualified A Level teacher with 20 years classroom experience and am currently a Sixth Form Year Team Director. I am Government and Politics and Sociology specialist. In my job those are the only two subjects I teach. What more do you need to know? Tons of experience, good humoured with expert subject knowledge.

I am a qualified subject specialist in 2 A Level subjects. I do not offer tutoring in other subjects that i might 'fancy having a go at'. There are too many tutors who claim to offer Politics or Sociology but in fact have taught neither subject at A Level. Worse they have a 'passing interest in the subject' and no clue of the relevant assessment objectives. So don't risk the unqualified and don't risk anyone without experience of teaching the new post 2016 linear A Level specifications (I can't stress this point enough having been not only involved in their delivery but also development - these A Levels are designed to be taught by subject specialists - don't hire anyone who hasn't taught them as you'll be wasting your time and money)

I currently teach the new spec for AQA Sociology and the new spec for Pearson Edexcel Government and Politics.

I do not tutor OCR Sociology. I can be persuaded to tutor AQA Politics but please note I didn't help develop this one!

Full QTS and enhanced DBS.

Tutoring Experience

A fully qualified teacher and Sixth Form Year Team Leader at an outstanding boys school in Northampton.

BA hons in Politics from the University of Wales and a PGCE in Social Science from the University of Leicester - with 20 years of A. Level experience in my current school in teaching and planning the delivery of A Level Governmemt and Politics and Sociology.

Proven track record of improving grade performance at AS and A Level - outstanding value added and stretching the top end for A and A*. Specialist in Pearson Edexcel Politics and AQA Sociology.

Produced the top sociology student (AQA) in the country on 2 occasions. You have got to be in it to win it.

OfQUAL advisor and researcher for A Level Government and Politics. Have been involved in the development of the current 2017 spec - nobody knows it better than me at this moment in time! Results reflect the fact that i know the fornula (and there is one) that other teachers don't seem to get!

As an experienced examiner I am fully aware of all assessment objectives for both subjects. My performance review and lesson observations fulfill the current OfSTED criteria for Outstanding.

With the current Pearson Edexcel Politics spec I can tutor every ideology option regardless of your centres choice. This I am expecting to be an area of difficulty for many students on the new specification.

With the current A Level Sociology specification I tutor Education, Crime, Families, Beliefs and Method. I can also offer support in other topics including Poverty and Media.

You'll appreciate that I work as a full time teacher and middle manager in a school with a Sixth Form of over 500. As a result time is in rather short supply. However I do try and accomodate as many requests as possible but I do end up turning down 2 out of 3 requests.

So .... don't delay. Get in touch. I do offer additional support during exam season again subject to availability.

Tutoring Approach

Flexible and open. Tailored to the needs of the student. We work together to get the grade you desire. Well resourced. Initial consultation meeting to identify your needs and expectations.

25ph in NN1, NN2 and NN3 inclusive of resources. Will travel within Northamptonshire and surrounding counties. Travel costs negotiable but there's usually a fiver surcharge each way which is pretty good value when you cost it out. Also you get to chill in your home and I do the leg work!

Where possible resources included as part of tutoring costs.

Please note that current Brexit uncertainty means that i might have to increase travel costs in October.
