Information About Matthew - Stevenage tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Matthew:
I attained my BA (First Class Honours) in English Literature and Language and am now tutoring English part-time. I am also studying towards a CELTA course, which consists of teaching English as a foreign language.
I want to tutor with the intention of creating an engaging and enjoyable space for students to learn according to their own learning styles and preferences.
Please contact me with any enquiries you may have regarding my focus subject, whether that be for preparation for exams, specifics needs with school curriculum, essay writing, and anything else.
I am a friendly, outgoing, confident and patient person who is looking to gain experience in tutoring, with the view to pursuing it as a career, alongside my secondary teaching plans.
The areas in which I excel are essay writing and organisational skills.
The former is a skill that, once honed, will have a significant impact on one's quality of work. The structure and approach taken to an essay is just as important as the content.
I have experience of teaching English to class sizes of over 20, including a mix of age groups from 6-13 years old. I am familiar with providing support for essay writing, proofreading and editing, revision techniques, presentations, writing techniques, as well as grammar, vocabulary and spelling development.
One-to-one tuition, I believe, is an excellent form of learning and one that inherently operates differently to group teaching, which is a good thing. Tutoring one-to-one is an excellent way to sustain interest, engage the critical faculties of the student, and allows the student to identify their strengths and weaknesses, thus giving them the focus needed to improve their skills.
My goal is to be able to elicit and develop these modes of learning and interpretation from the student, thereby equipping them with the robust tools - self-expression, argument-forming, developing critical essays - integral for high achievement. As important as the content of the curriculum is, my intent is to understand the student's individual learning styles, attitudes, and shortcomings, in order to create a framework that will provide them with the confidence and ability to improve their work.
As such, I want to provide an environment that is relaxed, without too much pressure, and one that fosters the confidence to tackle the subject matter without fear of failure. Improving one's academic skills is of the utmost importance - exams need to be passed, essays needed to be of a high quality - and I believe that in doing these things, it will achieve that intent.
If face-to-face tuition is not the most suitable for the student, I also offer online tuition, which works nearly just as well. I am happy to adjust my fee to reflect that.
Similarly, if the student needs support with essay writing in terms of structure, word choice, writing techniques, etc. then I can be contacted via email where I will give detailed feedback and recommendations.
Please do contact me if you think I am a suitable person to help your child develop their learning and, by extension, achieve great results.
