I am a secondary English teacher in West Yorkshire, and have eleven years' experience of working with students at GCSE and AS/A Level, in small groups, whole classes, and individually. I am a former Head of English, now an Assistant Headteacher with English very much at the heart of my work in school. Regardless of my role in school, though, I am, first and foremost, an English teacher, and am very proud of it!
I have in depth experience of the new English Language and English Literature specification, and have written detailed schemes of work to help students to access the content (both the easier and more complex aspects). Comfortable with either Literature of Language, please feel free to get in touch to discuss your/your child's requirements and I'll see if I can help.
I have worked in the same school in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, for eleven years. At various points throughout my career, I have been:
Newly qualified teacher - 2006-07
Advanced Skills Teacher - 2009
Head of English - 2010 - 2013
Assistant Headteacher - 2011 - present
My approach is very student/parent led. I aim to plug the gaps that are in place, or find solutions to barriers, but in a way and at a pace that is comfortable for the student. I have got on well with all tutees with whom I have worked, I work hard to prepare interesting, high quality sessions which link to key skills for the relevant assessment, and you can be sure that I will certainly do my very best to help plug any gaps in knowledge. My approach is to make learning interesting and enjoyable - only then can progress be made towards an end goal.
