Matthew

I'm a Teacher of Chemistry and Assistant Housemaster at Winchester College (Sept 2018-Present). I taught previously at Sevenoaks School (2016-2018) after graduating in Chemistry from Oxford University. I studied Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics at A-level. I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Chartered Chemist (CChem) status.

Tutoring Experience

I have accumulated over 100 hours of private tutoring experience both online and face-to-face. Most of this contact time was during my university years. It is pleasing to note that all past Year 12 and Year 13 tutees have made successful applications to university for Medicine, Chemistry and Natural Sciences.

I taught IGCSE and IB Chemistry at Sevenoaks School and took on an additional physics teaching post. I have experience in preparing candidates for university admission (Chemistry and Medicine at Oxford, Medicine at Bristol and Natural Sciences at Cambridge.) At Winchester, I teach IGCSE and A-level Chemistry, formerly Pre-U.

I have also prepared younger students for common entrance exams who have gained entry into selective independent schools.

Tutoring Approach

My tutorials hope to raise a student's confidence, enjoyment and command of their subject. I aim to develop key skills; critical thinking, a robust knowledge-base and clarity in interpreting and answering exam questions. I place strong emphasis on exam technique which is a considerable hurdle at A-level. I also check that both the student and his/her parents have a shared set of aspirations, and feedback is regularly provided.
