This is how 2 referees rated Matthew:
I am currently in my Masters year of a degree in Physics with Maths. I hope to spend my life exploring the fundamentals of the universe, and would love to pass this enthusiasm on through engaging and inspiring tutoring.
I have several years experience as an outreach ambassador for the South East Physics Network (SEPnet), teaching children about the wonders of physics in engaging and novel ways. This means I am able to explain what appear to be complex topics in simple and intuitive ways.
I also hold a CRB check dated 10th December 2010.
My approach to tutoring is to help the tutee see the broader picture and how everything connects. For example, rather than just seeing a equation on a page as symbols, it can represent a profound relation of important concepts with amazing implications for the universe we live in. I focus on the importance of understanding these underlying concepts before tackling sets of problems. This will ensure the tutee can draw from an understanding of why a problem should be solved a certain way, rather than just the equation required to do it. I am able to set and mark relavent problem sets between sessions to help the student progress in his understanding as well as help with problems already encountered in school work.
