Personal Description:

I am a current undergraduate student at UCL, and I previously attended the University of Pennsylvania - I'm new to London, having previously lived in Mexico City and Philadelphia.

I live in Regent's Park and I will travel free of charge anywhere within zones 1 and 2, although I'm willing to tutor anywhere in London.

Tutoring Experience:

I have four years of tutoring experience, both professionally and as volunteer work. The subjects I teach the most are Math, Computer Science and Physics, although I've also done Biology, Chemistry and Spanish.
After graduating high school I spent a year working as a full-time tutor and as a Mathematics and Physics teacher at IB level - there was a shortage of staff that year and my old school asked me to fill in for a few months. This experience in the classroom allowed me to become a better tutor by giving me the skills needed to interact with the various types of student.

None of my students at GCSE or IB level have ever failed the course I tutored them in.

Tutoring Approach:

On one-to-one tutoring sessions, I find it very important to study in a quiet, relaxed environment free from any distractions. Depending on the course in question, I can model the sessions around a single topic, or sometimes we follow the syllabus in order to prioritize exam results. Usually the system becomes much more tailor-made after the first or second session.

Over time, I have found that the best way of structuring sessions is in two one-hour blocks with a 15 minute rest in between. This is because one hour is sometimes not enough time to approach a subject with reasonable depth, but more than 3 hours can be too much for the students. Parents are sometimes apprehensive about the 15-minute break as it can seem that their child is slacking off, but a wide array of studies show this massively improves concentration.
