I am 51 years old, living in South Lakes. I am a qualified and experienced teacher who is currently tutoring face to face and online mathematics. I enjoy training for triathlons, especially the outdoor swimming! I spend a lot of time climbing and bouldering as well.
It has been and continues to be a joy and a privilege bringing up my two children. It has taught me a lot about myself and my priorities but more importantly, it has taught me how each individual is uniquely special and needs distinctly different attention.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching since 1991. I have taught in Zimbabwe, New Zealand but mostly in the UK.
I have taught in very different types of school - exclusive public and private schools, government schools large and small, rural and city, boarding and day alike.
I have taken on many additional roles with the education sector not just a subject teacher - trustee of a primary school, governor, head of outdoors are some of them.
My first post out of university was at Gordonstoun Summer School.
My first mathematics teaching post was in Zimbabwe in a small village school called Chakohwa Secondary School. This taught me how to teach with action and little English as their mother tongue was Shona.
Since then I have spent most of my working life teaching primary and secondary school age pupils outdoor activities and mathematics. On the maths front in the last decade, I have taught at local South Cumbrian seccondary schools like Kirkby Kendal, The Lakes School in Troutbeck, Ulverston Victoria High School and Our Lady's Catholic College in Lancaster.

Tutoring Approach

My overarching aim is to ensure that the pupil enjoys mathematics. Learning is an obvious by product of enjoying a lesson. I typically support their school learning by identifying weaknesses with their school work and any misconceptions. After identifying what the objective is (up and coming exam, confidence, or specific concepts) an appropriate framework of study is outlined giving the study programme a momentum with achievable outcomes on the way.
