I am passionate about English, both the use of language and how enriching literature is for our lives. I read widely and visit the theatre very often. I have examined English Language at A level and am currently an English Literature A Level examiner.
I tailor my tutorials to the needs of the individual pupil. My enthusiasm and diligence mean that students quickly gain trust and respect for me and gain confidence with my help. My results at A level; have always been in the top 25% in the country and frequently in the top 10%.
I have taught for over 20 years in a mixture of independent and state schools. I have experience of teaching both English Language and Literature to A level and GCSE.I have marked entrance exams to grammar schools and have tutored many successful Oxbridge students.
I have also helped students achieve the best grade possible when they have struggled with learning. I am sensitive to the needs of my students and although I strive towards high standards with all pupils, the pace will always suit the needs of the learner. I was Head of Upper Sixth Form at a leading Independent grammar school.
I tailor my lessons to the individual student and will adapt lessons according to requirements.
I believe that marking is an essential aspect of English teaching and will mark and return promptly marked work to students.
For exams it is essential to address assessment objectives, so I can help students adapt the knowledge they have in order to gain the marks they deserve. I work with sensitivity and with a keen sense of humour. Learning is much quicker when it is fun.
