Personal Description:

I am a graduate of BSc Biomedical Sciences (Anatomy) at the University of Aberdeen who has extensive experience in taking part in biology olympiads both at national and international levels. Therefore, I can help with not only school biology but also can prepare you for the British Biology Olympiad and the International Biology Olympiad. Furthermore, I sat MCAT and BMAT test for admission to medical schools and attained great results in Biology sections, thus can help improve your skills in tackling problems in Science section of these tests.

At university I studied Human physiology, Anatomy, Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Neuroharmacology and Neuroscience. Moreover, I spent one year studying Medicine at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences where I gained knowledge on Biochemistry, Genetics, Histology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology.

To foster my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, I began participating in the Lithuanian National Biology Olympiad (LitBo) where in 2011, 2012 and 2013 I was awarded with gold medals. In the International Biology Olympiad 2012 and 2013 I was awarded two bronze medals.

Because of my inclination for genetics, I won the first place in DNA Day 2012 Essay Competition in Lithuania (for the essay ‘The siRNAs as a prospective cure for cancer‘), the award of the Rector of Vilnius University in DNA Day 2013 Essay Competition in Lithuania and the Honourable Mention in DNA Day 2013 Essay Competition in Europe (for the essay ‘How the sequencing of human genome promotes our understanding of atherosclerosis‘).

Also I won first place prizes in Stem cell bank essay competition, 2014, Vilnius (Lithuania) as well as in the United Kingdom and Ireland Controlled Release Society (UKICRS) Essay Competition 2015 and Essay Competition 2016.

During summer 2015 in the Institute of Medical Sciences in Aberdeen I experienced cutting edge research under the supervision of Prof. Peter Teismann on a project asking ‘Are animals with an extended lifespan due to Nrf2 mediated enhanced antioxidant response less prone to develop Parkinson’s disease? As a participant of Kupcinet-Getz Program, at Weizmann Institute in Israel under the supervision of Dr. Lilach Gilboa we investigated how Stat and ERK signalling cooperate to control cellular extensions of escort cells in Drosophila ovaries.

Tutoring Experience:

After I finished school I started to run a blog **Web Address Removed** which has been visited 1 000 000 times. Moreover, I tutor students from all over the world via Skype and help them prepare for biology olympiads and science contests.

Since 2013 I have been a biology teacher at the National Students’ Academy, Kaunas (Lithuania) (http://www.nmakademija.lt/en/). Our activity is addressed to talented students in sciences and arts, independently of location, social status, age or sex, and aimed at students from 7th to 12th grade. They are taught distantly their chosen subjects to give the knowledge and skills that they would have not been able to achieve in traditional education.

I also tutor students eye-to-eye and can help with any level of school biology.

Tutoring Approach:

During tutorials me and my students together solve past papers and I give some additional details not covered in main textbooks. I also use Internet resources and images to enhance student's understanding and give a broader overview of the topics we are covering.

Moreover, I call my teaching style 'Teach a teacher' because during tutorials I try to speak less but I question and listen to my student and try to improve his/her skills in explaining and not only memorizing the information.
