I completed a degree and PhD in archaeology at Cambridge, and was on my college University Challenge team and involved in the student newspaper. I taught archaeology for a while before retraining to teach geography; I later completed the conversion course to Law, and the Legal Practice Course, and taught Law. For twelve years I was a City Councillor in Leeds, and have broad political involvement. I have been involved in International Development education, and some development work in West Africa.
