I am a widely travelled person and an experienced teacher of modern foreign languages. I believe that learning a different language is not simply about learning the language itself, but it also involves learning about the culture of the people who speak that language. As a result of my interest in language and culture, I enjoy travelling abroad with my family on a regular basis, so as to continually improve my own skills and awareness, and to appreciate other people's way of life. In my free time I enjoy going on outings with my family, as well as playing tennis, doing jogging, and going swimming.
I have many years of experience in teaching languages to students in schools, as well as teaching adults of differing ages and levels of ability. I hold language qualifications from the United Kingdom as well as abroad, and I am currently a member of a successful Modern Foreign Languages team in a large secondary comprehensive school. In addition to my language teaching (French, German and Spanish), I also have experience of translation work in French and Portuguese.
I find tutoring students to be very rewarding and I enjoy tailoring lessons to students' individual needs and priorities. While a firm and consistent approach is very important in tutoring, it is equally necessary to show flexibility and have a calm and encouraging manner so that students feel at ease, have the confidence to perform well and make good progress. When doing tuition, I am happy to either tutor people on a one-to-one basis, or in small groups.
