This is how a referee rated Mark:
I am a teacher, composer, arranger and writer based in the picturesque town of Hebden Bridge (West Yorks) within easy reach from Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and Manchester. I have a considerable amount of experience of music practice (ranging from popular to classical to music technology) and have taught in a variety of contexts (see below).
I taught guitar privately in Leeds from 1996 and 2001 and also worked as a peripatetic guitar teacher for Roundhay Music (North Leeds) and later Calderdale local authority. I taught at Leeds College of Music between 1998-2011, initially at Further Education level and then Higher Education for undergraduate and Masters degree levels, on a variety of music-related modules across the Classical, Jazz, Popular Music and Music Production degrees offered by the college. I currently work part-time as a Teaching Fellow and Programme Manager for the BSc Music, Multimedia and Electronics at the University of Leeds. I am also a visiting lecturer in the Faculty of Arts at York St John University and an external examiner at University of Brighton (City College).
I have also worked freelance as a professional music typesetter for publications by Cambridge University Press (Julian Rushton’s ‘Elgar: Enigma Variations’), Boosey and Hawkes (‘Guitar from Scratch’), The Consort and numerous private individuals. I compose, arrange and produce music in a variety of genres too.
Below is a breakdown of my teaching experience:
Guitar: Private tutor and working for Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, teaching classical, acoustic and electric guitar. Teaching via one-to-one, small group tuition and guitar ensembles (as arranger and conductor).
Masters Level: Composition (Film, Popular Music and Classical), Critical Theory, Industry Studies.
Bachelors Level: World Music, Cultural Studies and Critical Theory, Popular Music History/Composition, Western ‘Art’ Music History, Popular Music Composition, Harmony and Counterpoint, Arranging and Orchestration, Dissertation, General Musicianship, Music Production Project, Electronic Music, Production Analysis, Electronic Music Production.
Advanced Level: A Level Music (Edexcel) for Music and Music Technology.
BTEC & Music First: Popular Music, Ensemble Performance, Music Theory (ABRSM), Composition, Harmony and Counterpoint, Music History, Aural Training.
I am willing to teach and guide my pupils in any area they wish to study, and will tailor lessons to the pre-agreed personal goals of my students, if required offering combinations of areas – for example, instrumental tuition with music theory or composition and music production.
