Personal Description:
Having taught primary-age children in North Yorkshire schools for 21 years, I can help your child reach their potential through regular, high-quality personal tutoring. I enjoy seeing children grow in confidence as they develop new skills and understanding, particularly with areas they found challenging in the past. I can provide sessions of 45 or 60 minutes to suit different ages and needs. There are no costs for travel (up to fifteen minutes) or for resources used and I offer a discount for block bookings.
I am married and a dad to three children, who all enjoy family life together and understand the need for a good work ethic and strong core skills. I have a full enhanced CRB (DBS) certificate and full references.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught in North Yorkshire primary schools for over 21 years, including 12 as headteacher of a small village school with a substantial teaching commitment. I have taught mixed-age classes of juniors and infants of all abilities, KS2 booster sessions and SEN interventions, in all subjects including reading, writing, spelling and mathematics. As a former headteacher I am fully up-to-date regarding the revised primary curriculum, introduced in September 2014.
Tutoring Approach:
We start with a chat on the phone to collect information about your child's strengths, confidence and areas to develop, along with your own needs and expectations. I also welcome information from reports and assessments so that I can prepare a personalised plan in time for the first session, with targets to aim for along the way.
I plan varied, interactive sessions using mental activities, games, written tasks, educational apps, websites… whichever is the best tool for learning available. I can also provide further activities and websites to practise through the week.

He is prompt, professional, organised and clearly very experienced in his work. He has already had a significant impact on our sons confidence and enthusiasm to enjoy learning maths. Alex looks forward to the sessions with Mark and happily recants his new successes to us.
It has been very reassuring to have Mark involved with Alex's education and I am delighted with the progress Alex is making.
Mark
He was excellent all round especially in communication with our child and ensuring that she was relaxed and enjoyed the work.
He helped massively with her confident and as such she got the best grades possible.
Thank you, we will be in touch soon.
