Richard Mark

I am an industrial scientist who retrained as a teacher after 25 years in the biotechnology industry. I have four grown up children of my own, so I have experienced education in three different ways! I have always enjoyed doing tutoring in parallel to my teaching, but this has necessarily been rather limited. I have now left full-time teaching to pursue other interests, and this gives me the opportunity to increase my tutoring.

Tutoring Experience

I gained Qualified Teacher Status in September 2008 after completing my induction year at Aylesbury Grammar School in Buckinghamshire, where I stayed on as a specialist biology teacher for a further two years. I moved to Sherborne School in 2011 to to increase my experience of different types of school and take a more active role in outdoor education.

Tutoring Approach

I have an informal and friendly approach that starts by making sure that tutees have a good understanding of basic biological principles. I couple this with a focus on exam technique, working through questions together. Finally, I provide a set of on-line resources for learning of keywords and facts.
