English Literature/American Studies Graduate (Swansea University, 1971 Honours).
Have a love of all literature - English, American, Irish and Commonwealth, and experience in language analysis.
After a 30 year career in public service, 15 of which was as a staff trainer in organisation and management, have retrained as a teacher and now specialise in personal tuition.
I prefer to work during the day with adult and A level students.
Have had proven results with students, usually raising A level results by at least one grade.
Adult trainer, Huntingdon, Beds Health Authorities, and Herts Social Services - 1985 - 1998.
Personal Tutor since 2007, specialising in English A level.
Begin with one-to-one discussion with tutee to assess needs.
I encourage independence of thought and self- analysis of strengths and weaknesses.
Where needed, I teach techniques for essay planning and question analysis.
When time allows my approach is broad, relating texts to other authors and social/historical context.
My aim is to encourage student to enjoy the texts. The advantage of one-to-one tuition is the opportunity to tailor the lessons to the individual so they gain as much as possible from the lessons.
