I'm an independent electronics and software engineer specialising in signal processing, with decades of experience. Maths and Computer Science has featured significantly in my career as many engineering disciplines are essentially applied mathematics.
I've tutored both my oldest child and other family members to get excellent results in GCSE maths. I'm currently tutoring my younger child. I've also tutored young adults on the Autistic Spectrum.
I've delivered technical training in a wide ranges of environments including corporate, one-to-one, skill sharing workshops and festivals.
As with many other skills, the technique is to break down complex problems into simpler ones. This may expose some areas where knowledge and the application of that knowledge needs reinforcement.
Some of the questions in the GCSE maths papers can be quite wordy, so there's a skill to be learned in teasing out what the question is to be solved.
There's no getting away from the fact that to get a good result, the student will have to put some time in themselves - the way to get good at passing exams is to practice taking exams - so the more past papers the student can practise with, the better.
