I am 61 years old, married with 3 adult children all employed. When time permits hobbies include playing squash, wood carving. This is in between marking, DIY, and walking the dog. I am patient with a friendly caring disposition. Previous jobs include post-doctoral research after my Ph.D. and a period in industry carrying out research

Tutoring Experience

I am an experienced teacher (22 years) and examiner for AQA Biology. I currently teach in a Sixth form college AS, A2 Biology, and also deliver Foundation Biology and Pharmacy course at College for Manchester University students.

Tutoring Approach

In many of the classes I teach, students have a wide range of abilities. However, students consistently achieve above what is expected.
However many students have specific problems/difficulties that make it hard for them to obtain the grades they are capable of. Often it is with exam techniques and the more demanding application and how science works questions that cause the most difficulties.

I have tutored at least 40 students over the years who all made good progress at AS and A2 usually achieving grades they need to progress to the universities of their choice. If a student is taught in an understanding and supportive environment, on 1 to 1 basis they are more likely to be receptive to new ideas. If help is given to analyse where a student is loosing marks, this is the first step to improvement, and maximising a students potential
