I have a warm, friendly and approachable personality. I enjoy taking on new challenges and meeting new people. My hobbies include: piping, landscape painting, spinning (wool) and kayaking. I also particularly enjoy baking anything that involves chocolate! I am currently in the second year of a PhD in Scottish Literature at Stirling University.
I am a fully qualified teacher and have 13 years experience of teaching English at all levels from S1 to Advanced Higher. I specialise in course and exam tuition for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. I relate well to pupils of all ages who respond well to my positive and engaging approach. My pupils have achieved excellent results at all grades and increased levels of confidence.
I am looking forward to teaching at undergraduate level at the University of Stirling in the springtime and I am also enjoying working as a PhD peer mentor.
I believe that building pupil's confidence in their own skills is a crucial part in ensuring success in English at every level. Whether it's critical essay writing, textual analysis, creative writing or close reading, we can build on existing strengths and go on to develop confidence with elements that pupils find particularly challenging. A subject is so much easier when you actually enjoy it, so I always endeavour to make my lessons as engaging as possible. My teaching style is friendly and relaxed with a good sense of humour.
