I come from a fine art background, having studied fine art to honours degree level. After this I completed a PGCE teaching qualification in early years. I have a strong approach to teaching creatively and it is for this reason that I have chosen my preference to be teaching the age group 3-7 year olds. I have now begun on the pathway to gaining a masters in play therapy and so far have begun to become familiar with the importance of play in a child's life when it comes to understanding their world better. I feel this knowledge will enrich my teaching career and it will contextualise my knowledge of their learning development and so allow me to enhance their learning experience by knowing the best approach to take around a difficulty a child may be having when it comes to gaining and attaining knowledge around a certain subject.
I have taught in a number of schools in Oxford, England having gained my qualifications there in 2008. I have also tutored children from the ages of 5-11 years old in the Oxford area. I have taught mainly in the foundation stage and keystage one. I travelled to Australia in September 2012 and taught in a variety of children's centres, eventually teaching in one for seven months where I helped to improve the centre by developing a varied curriculum for the preschool room. Returning to England, I moved to London where I took a job as the reception teacher in a preparatory school in south London. I am now teaching on a supply basis in order to study for my masters in play therapy.
My approach to tutoring is now more holistic, having gained more knowledge on the therapeutic side of child development in my play therapy training. I have a strong knowledge on children's educational development stages and how a child learns having studied different educationalists work and theories. I also have a wide variety of experience when it comes to teaching and so have knowledge of a wide variety of children and where their difficulties may arise when it comes to learning. I aim to support a child's self esteem and confidence when it comes to learning and by supporting them in this I know it can lead to them thriving in any given subject especially Maths and English. Creative approaches to learning are my forte and I notice that this approach often incorporates the different learning styles whether it be kinaesthetic, auditory or visual. Getting to know the child and developing a relationship within boundaries is very important when it comes to playing a key role in their education and learning. I have a strong history of developing strong relationships with both parents and children and enjoy meeting new children all the time!
