Madeleine

Hackney Tutor

First and foremost I am friendly and sensitive to other's needs. I studied English Literature at University of Cambridge where I developed my passion for learning, discussion and debate. Alongside this academic grounding I have worked with children of all ages, abilities, and disabilities for over five years, in a creative capacity. I work as a freelance editor and writer, recently having moved to Berlin to work for 032c Magazine, and now The Pigeonhole Publishing. I am creative and sociable, and am passionate about fostering a similar love of the arts in any student I work with.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring for a year across subjects, predominantly in English Literature. I also have vast experience working with young children and teenagers, running arts and crafts workshops. I have volunteered for Forest School Camps charity for over five years.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is holistic: I both work toward tangible academic goals and aim to engender a wider appreciation of a subject in a student. As a self-motivated individual I bring enthusiasm and dedication to all my work. This is something I encourage and inspire in others. Learning and working in high-performing environments throughout my studies I am aware of the skills necessary to reach academic excellence and am familiar with various exam systems. Having worked extensively with children and young adults in a non-academic environment I have developed the necessary interpersonal and communicative skills for enabling others to achieve their best. I am passionate about learning and the importance of inspiring this interest in younger generations. I encourage a thoughtful approach to academia, in order both to achieve good results and to foster excitement and interest in academic subjects. I am organised with an eye for detail and have excellent time management.
