I am a 32 year old female with a passion for learning, teaching and sharing of knowledge. I am a keen reader, runner and traveller and believe that all of these interests are imperative to my quality of teaching; reading is evidently the backbone of enrichment, running gifts a healthy and clear mind and travelling immeasurably allows one to expand their own vision which can be shared through teaching and learning.
I currently work as the Head of Economics and Politics at a school in Hackney. I was promoted to the role of Deputy in my department within my first year of qualified teaching which is testament to my commitment to quality and collaborative teaching and learning. After three years I moved school and gained head of subject in both politics and economics. My results at A-level this year were 100% A-C in both Economics and Politics. Prior to my career as a school teacher I was a tutor of Accounting and Economics at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow for two years where I gained insightful skills and knowledge in teaching my specialist subjects at further education level.
Tutoring is very different from class wide teaching in that the needs of the individual student can be met precisely. Tutoring should be tailored to to the areas of the subject which the student identifies a weakness in but should also involve diagnosis and target setting from the tutor. I am more than willing to undertake intense, subject-wide exam revision or sessions of steady consolidation of class learning. Furthermore, skill based tutoring, such as essay writing or graphing (Economics only), can be highly effective for success in exams and can be offered as a unique block of sessions or as part of a general tutoring course.
