I am a positive and approachable tutor who aims to motivate and encourage my students with lessons that are enjoyable, focused and productive. As a mum of three, I have myself experienced the frustration of seeing a child under-achieve and lose confidence and I know what a difference a good tutor can make.
I offer support in English and Maths up to Year 6 and specialist English tutoring for 11 plus. I can also offer French for 13 plus and English as an Additional Language.
I taught at an independent school for eleven years (up to July 17), teaching a range of subjects across the 7-11 age group. This included teaching Year Five English in that all- important year before 11 plus and I fully understand the pressure that children (and their parents) can feel at this stage. I have taught children with a very wide range of academic ability and attitudes to learning, from children who have gone on to win academic scholarships to those who have struggled with learning difficulties.
I have also been SENco and closely involved in identifying ways to support children with learning difficulties (please note though that I am not a specialist SEN teacher).
I believe that being able to explore and focus one to one on a child’s specific needs, without the distractions, pressures and limitations of the classroom, offers huge opportunities for progress. I make lessons varied, enjoyable and tailored to the individual child and encourage children to be positive and ambitious in their learning. In the words of Captain Jack Sparrow, “The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.”
I offer an initial consultation session free of charge.
