I have the opportunity to take a break from the classroom and invite a limited number of pupils into my home for one to one tuition. My aim is to not only improve your exam performance but to increase understanding and confidence. My science education has enabled me to travel the world, meet incredible people and have amazing experiences. I hope that by sharing this with my pupils they will appreciate their potential, and provide some motivation during those difficult exam months!
After completing a Masters and a PhD in genetics and cell biology from the University of Glasgow, I worked as a research scientists for one year before undertaking a PGCE. I was graded outstanding in my teaching and obtained a distinction in the Masters element of the PGCE course from Hope University. I have taught in both mainstream and SEN specialist schools and in addition to my qualifications I have teaching experience from working at Glasgow science centre, running workshops at various science festivals, home tutoring, and volunteering in schools overseas.
I am passionate about science and the importance of critical thinking in this discipline. I will tutor towards exams using exam board syllabi, but I am also keen to ensure that understanding runs deeper than simple fact regurgitation. True understanding of scientific concepts will not only boost exam performance but will also provide great advantages throughout life. Having undertaken both autism and trauma training I understand the huge importance of comfort and stability in learning. Thus, all lessons take place in my home so I can control the environment and maximise learning efficiency.
