Luke

Hi! I'm Luke and I graduated from the university of Reading with a 2:1 BSc (hons) degree in Chemistry. As well as Chemistry, I also have a passion for Maths, Music and Drama, achieving A's in all these subjects at GCSE. I am a patient tutor and always aim to put my students interests first, providing a calm and engaging environment to help guide the student towards their aims. I also enjoy sports such as football and composing music in my free time.

Tutoring Experience

Although I am new to tutoring I have found myself enjoying it more and more each lesson. During my time in secondary school on my free periods and for a couple of weeks after my university exams I would volunteer to help in a variety of different classes such as Music, Drama, Chemistry and Maths and feel this has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of how each student has different ways of learning and interacting.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring will varying depending on each student but I believe that starting with the basics and making sure the student has a solid foundation to work from will enable them to fully understand the subject and not just teach them how to answer each question.

All students will need help in different areas of the curriculum and I feel its best to sit down with the student and find out a) Why they feel they are struggling b) What they define as their weakest and strongest areas and c) How do they feel they best learn material. From there I can construct a plan for each session specific to the students needs and also map out an overall timetable with clear aims and targets the student hopes to achieve at the end of the tuition.
