Hi, my name is Lucy, I currently am a first year Undergraduate studying Philosophy and Theology at Durham University
IGCSE - English Literature (A*), English Language (A*), Maths (A), Double award science (A*A*), RS full course (A*), Spanish (A*) , History (A*)
A levels - English Literature (A), Psychology (A*), RS - Philosophy of religion & Religious ethics (A*)
I have experience in both private tutoring, and classroom teaching. In terms of private tutoring, I have taught a variety of subjects to students from Year 3 to A level standard. Moreover, In December 2017, I spent 4 weeks teaching maths and English to classes of 30, aged between 4 and 13 at the Divine International School, Ghana. I am therefore happy to teach on a one-to-one level, or to larger groups.
In the previous year, I have helped students achieve and go beyond their target grade, with one A level Psychology student achieving 2 grades higher than what he had been predicted for the exam.
Having recently completed my exams, I find it easy to empathise with students, and believe that this is necessary in order to truly engage with those needing assistance. I take a calm and measured approached to tutoring, and am happy to repeat ideas as many times as possible. I try my best to explain concepts in straightforward manner in order to build a solid foundation of knowledge and then building upon that.
Practically every student that I know has agreed that they struggle with the volume of content of each subject, be it for school summer exams, GCSEs or A Levels, and I therefore teach in a way which tries to help the key information stick so that this is less of an issue!
