I am a 52 year-old qualified and experienced MFL teacher, offering tuition in Spanish up to GCSE level and in French up to the end of Key Stage 3 (age 13-14). I have taught Languages for a total of 25 years and am familiar with both the old and the new GCSE syllabus. In addition, I have been Head of Languages for the last 3 years. I also have 3 children of my own who have all been through the process of attaining a GCSE in a Language, so I can see things from a parent's point of view as well.
I have always experienced a high level of success with my pupils and I continue to aim for excellent results for each and every one.
I have taught both French and Spanish across the ability range in both Primary and Secondary sectors. I tutor pupils at both Foundation and Higher levels of GCSE. I have also delivered an NVQ course in Languages with Business, producing impressive results. When my own children were young, I ran classes for Primary school pupils from Y4 - Y6, sometimes as an after-school club and sometimes in my own home. These classes were conducted via a fun-based approach, taking into account the age group of the children.Other relevant experience includes delivering a Spanish Beginners class for adults and also an after-school 'Family Spanish' club.
My aim is to firstly assess the needs of the pupil. Once this has been achieved, I would then identify a suitable methodology and access appropriate resources for the level, age and character of the pupil. To give examples, for a Primary school pupil I might deliver lessons through the medium of games and competitions whereas for a Y11 GCSE student I would concentrate on examination skills. Another pupil might just need help with understanding grammar, in which case I would focus on clear explanations of any areas of difficulty, followed by practice exercises to reinforce the learning. I have a wealth of materials to choose from, covering all levels of difficulty up to Higher level GCSE.
To conclude, I always strive to forge a supportive relationship with all my pupils, in order to increase their confidence levels which then leads to them performing to their best academically.
