As a TEFL/TESOL-certified English tutor and graduate of English Literature and French from the University of Liverpool, I have always had a passion for languages and literature. After teaching in France for a year as an English Language Teaching Assistant, I graduated with an Upper Second and a Distinction in spoken French. After university, I have pursued a career in publishing in London, working across a wide range of fiction and non-fiction titles for Hachette (the second largest publisher in Europe, publishing the likes of J. K. Rowling, David Mitchell and Donna Tartt) in order to follow my love of all things book related. I am currently working as a Production Editor for Springer Nature, the world's largest publisher of academic journals. I was also a recipient of the Print Futures Award in 2018 and received funding to study advanced proofreading and copy-editing courses with the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, where I completed my qualifications in 2019. I can proofread your academic assignments and help you finesse them to achieve top marks. A second pair of eyes can be so beneficial when you have been looking at your own written work for a long time, and I can comment on where you may need some help pulling the strands of your argument together. Additionally, I can also help you write and design a CV, or check your CVs and cover letters, as I also work on a freelance basis as a CV writer and checker.
I have a robust knowledge of grammar, spelling, a wide array of writing styles, English and American literature and French language and culture. Through teaching in France, I gained great pedagogical experience in everything from one-on-one support sessions to large classes. I possess the know-how of what one needs to succeed in becoming a competent linguist, a fluent Francophile and an avid lover of literature. I received an array of A*s and As in my own GCSEs and A Levels and would love to help students do the very best they can.
I am TEFL/TESOL certified, with plenty of experience in teaching English learners. I also worked as an English Language Teaching Assistant in France in 201213. I taught large classes of students (up to 35 pupils) and also gave one-on-one support sessions. I have experience of tutoring students with dyslexia and also leading top-set students to achieve top marks in their end of year final exams. I currently tutor in London on a weekly basis, with the ages I tutor ranging from young primary school children to adult learners from all over the world. Additionally, I teach Chinese students English online on a weekly basis.
Working in publishing, it is my job to have a robust knowledge of grammar, literary theory and writing styles and genres. I proofread and edit academic scientific journals, and I also work as a freelance proofreader. I won a prestigious publishing award in 2018. Additionally, I have always excelled academically myself and truly loved being in education. I have a strong knowledge of the national curriculum, as well as what university tutors are looking for in the assignments they read.
I am very relaxed and approachable. My teaching approach endeavours to allow the student to develop a passion for the subject. I do this through preparing engaging lessons on current topics in fields such as history, politics, sports, art, music and film. As a proofreader I am, however, meticulous to the nth degree. I firmly believe that the basics need to be mastered in any subject grammar in language learning is crucial; theory in literature is so important. I believe setting small homework assignments is a great way to compound knowledge. I also feel that celebrating successes is vital to a student enjoying the sessions and believe that each session should end with a little bit of fun revision.
Above all, I am truly passionate about English language, English literature and French/Spanish language and culture. This passion cannot help but shine through in my approach.
Please note that I offer a 10% discount on block bookings of lessons.
