I am passionate about the teaching of English as a subject and am totally committed to every single student whom I teach and tutor; seeing the progress they make is the most rewarding aspect of my job.
I am also a parent myself, so I completely understand how important our children’s education is to us.
I have 15 years' experience of working within Wiltshire secondary schools, including a decade running KS4 (GCSE) English and 3 years as a Head of English. During that time, I have consistently been graded as outstanding by Ofsted and have a proven track record of ensuring students achieve excellent exam results at GCSE and A Level. I also have 12 years of experience in private tutoring at all levels and have supported every one of these students to achieve on or above their desired target grade/level. In addition to this, I have 10 years of experience with AQA as an examiner and coursework moderator, which is invaluable when helping students to decode the exam and understand what the examiner is looking for. I have marked GCSE English Language, English Literature and A Level Language and English Literature for AQA and I have full knowledge of all of the other major exam boards’ specifications, so I can offer tutoring for English Language or English Literature at GCSE and A Level.
My aim is to ensure students feel comfortable, confident and - above all - to enjoy studying English by breaking down the skills of the subject and developing their strengths as well as their weaknesses to build this confidence as quickly as possible.
Within the first couple of sessions, I always carry out a full assessment and review of core skills with the student so that we can agree a plan of action to ensure progress is made over the period of time we have. Having taught in schools and tutored for many years, I have a wealth of resources which I can tailor and provide to match the needs of your child.
I also ensure that regular homework is set (if requested by parents) at the end of each session which will allow your child to stretch and consolidate their learning from the session, and which we will revisit in the following session to check progress and understanding.
My fees are £40 per hour for A Level and £35 per hour for GCSE. If booking 1.5-2 hour sessions, my hourly rate would be reduced by £5 per hour. These fees reflect my extensive experience and proven track record as a teacher and tutor. With tutoring, you get what you pay for.
I have availability on a Wednesday from 3.30-6.30pm and on a Thursday and Friday from 10am-3.30pm. I may be able to offer a Saturday morning by special arrangement.
UPDATE: I am currently only able to offer remote tutoring via Microsoft Teams which is easy to download and use, and more secure than Zoom.
Unfortunately I do not offer an online discount as I would put the same preparation into an online session as a face to face session. There are some tutors who offer cheaper sessions but I believe my experience and track record warrant my reasonable fees.
