Languages Graduate from the University of Edinburgh who is currently a Regional Interviewer for Camp America. I have significant summer camp leadership experience in the UK, USA (where I was a general counsellor in New York for the summer of 2007. I have worked with inner city children on religious camps supervising arts and crafts activities, and taught English in Belgium, Kazakhstan and Italy. I have spent significant periods of time in the countries (France and Italy) for the languages I intend to teach in the UK. I am currently applying to do my PGCE qualification to train as a Secondary Modern Languages teacher, and I will specialise in French and German, but also instruct extracurricular and GCSE Italian classes.
I have been employed as a volunteer leader on girls camps for the Saint Vincent de Paul Holy Island Camp for 5 summers since 2003. I worked in Switzerland for a month in 2008 as a Group Leader with French at International Camp Suisse, and taught beginners French through songs and games. In summer 2007, I was employed at Holmes Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center in New York as a General Counsellor supervising Canoeing, and horse riding activities. I taught English in Belgium for Ski Ten International for 6 weeks in 2008, and worked with beginners, intermediate and advanced English groups teaching grammar and oral classes. I have volunteered with BILIM Central Asia in Kazakhstan to give presentations on the higher education system in the UK, and also deliver one-to-one English pronunciation lessons. Recently, I spent 5 weeks in Italy travelling and then teaching English for Lingue Senza Frontiere where I was employed at a school in Lecco as an English Camp Tutor. I taught 12 Italian teenagers English through a variety of daily themed worksheets, and also through didactic methods. The overall goal of the camp was to incorporate daily themes into my teaching to prepare my class to perform a big camp show at the end of camp around the theme of 'Arthur and Friends.'
Interactive, didactic methods. I use visual aids to spark imaginations for languages, and also encourage learning through creative methods such as drama. I have worked for employers who prefer more structured teaching methods for grammar and vocabulary instruction. I also have experiences on teaching English as a Foreign Language in Italy with Lingue Senza Frontiere which offers a more personalised learning experience.
