Information About Lorna - Chester-le-Street tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Lorna:
I am an experienced Primary School teacher and I am excited to be moving into the field of tutoring.
I enjoy reading and I am very passionate about teaching children to read. I also have a keen interest in sport, having participated in athletics myself for many years. I enjoy walking and spending time with family and friends.
I have taught for 6 years in two Primary Schools. I taught in Year one for two years during which the Phonics Screening Check was introduced and the percentage of children in my class who achieved the pass standard was higher than that of the national percentage. I then taught in Reception for two years where I was able to further develop my ability to deliver fun, interactive, outdoor learning activities.
I also have experience of teaching in KS2 as I taught in Year Three for one year and led 1:1 and small group boosters in Maths and English with Year Six children to help prepare them for their SATs assessment. I have further experience of preparing children for the SATs assesment as I taught in Year Two where I was able to improve results with the children achieving results in line with the national percentage in two out of the three subjects.
I coordinated Geography and PE. I also took on the role of promoting reading in KS1. This involved organising various reading events to develop children's enthusiasm for reading and parental involvement.
I provide fun and engaging tutoring sessions to develop a love of learning. Initial assessments are used to inform a starting point and an individual learning plan. I would also be keen to hear from parents/carers and school to further inform this plan. Subsequent sessions involve set activities to develop specific skills. I would endeavour to use a range of exciting, interactive activities to develop your child’s learning. Questioning would take place throughout the session to inform myself of your child’s next steps and ensure progression in their learning.
