Health / Social Care
I am passionate about helping mature adults to work in both Nursing and the Health and Social Work arena. I welcome widening participation in the Further and Higher Education Sector. I particularly enjoy teaching study skills and the "Art" of academic writing .
I have recently retired from being a Senior University Lecturer at Huddersfield University for over 20years.
I have a Masters (Distinction) in Sexual health Studies, a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion,BSc (Hons )in Midwifery and Healthcare Studies. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCE)
My background was as a Nurse and Midwife and I have taught Midwifery,Sexual Health,Return to Nursing Practice and many Aspects of Health and Social Care.
I have recently completed a Diploma in Aromatherapy and am now studying for a Diploma in Cognitive Therapies.
My tutoring experience has been very varied in many aspects of Health and Social Care, Nursing (pre and post registration), Return to Nursing Courses, Midwifery (both pre and post registration), Health Promotion,Sexual Health and Study Skills.
I welcome the holistic approach of Health and Social Care coming together and the autonomy and empowerment of the Individual and their Community.
I have been an External Examiner for various health courses at another University and helped in the writing of courses at my own University.
I am happy to use Skype or email for online tutoring when the student does not wish to or simply cannot travel for private tutorials.
I am very enthusiastic about widening participation and have a lot of experience working with adults who are either "new" or returning to study following a substantial break in their education.
I have students whom I work with from all over the country.
I believe that with motivation and dedication all students can fulfil their potential. The feeling of achievement when you have worked hard and are successful is immense and very well deserved in this ever changing world of work where nothing is certain. It is important to keep moving forward, challenging yourself and being aware of the job market and how you can achieve the academic knowledge and qualifications to ensure some job security. I aim to help students reach this goal and move forward with fruitful happy lives.
