Online English (Foreign Language) Lessons

I'm a published author, editor and independent film director, offering tailored English language conversation practice and tuition for a variety of needs.

I am currently directing my debut feature film and my book 'Toponym' (LemonMelon, 2014) has been featured in exhibitions and at international artists’ books fairs in the U.K. and Europe (including Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery and the Beaux Arts, Paris).

I hold a First Class degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London, and worked as part of the small team on the Oscar-nominated and BAFTA award-winning film ‘The Act of Killing.’ I have also worked throughout the years as an academic and literary editor and translator, including at the Committee of Ethnographic Film in Paris.

I am a native English speaker and have a good command of several languages, including Hebrew (native, bilingual), Russian (proficient), French (proficient) and German (intermediate).

Tutoring Experience

Having lived and worked abroad in several countries over the past twelve years, I have gained extensive experience working with tutees from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

I have worked with university students, BA level through to PHD, offering one-to-one tuition and mentoring to improve their academic writing skills, providing them with structured critical feedback on their dissertations and essays, and developing their confidence and fluency in spoken English for international academic conferences.

I have also worked with professionals, with a focus on improving their English communication skills in the workplace. This includes building confidence with public speaking, preparing for written and oral presentations, correspondence, as well as helping students to grasp cultural ‘codes’ and to speak with greater ease in both formal and informal exchanges within a business environment.

I have also taught adult learners who aspire to improve their spoken and written English for a range of personal reasons.

Tutoring Approach

I take a creative, friendly and professional approach to teaching and tailor my approach to my students’ individual needs. Mastering a new language, at whatever level, can be a daunting experience and I strive to ensure that my students are as comfortable as possible and can look forward to our lessons. I enjoy getting to know my students and believe that building a good rapport between us is vital for students' progress and confidence in learning the language and culture.
