Ladbroke Grove Tutor

Quadrilingual film director and published author, with a creative, friendly and professional approach, offering tailored private tuition for a variety of needs. Available for one-to-one Removed tuition at flexible hours.

I am currently directing a feature-length documentary film, with cinematography by Sundance award-winning Director of Photography, Alexei Fillipov.

I have also published an artist's book, 'Toponym' (LemonMelon, 2014), which was launched at Matt's Gallery in London, together with a film installation.

'Toponym' has been featured in artists’ books exhibitions curated by a r c h i p e l a g o in London, Paris, Rome and Milan (including Flowers Gallery and Roz Barr Gallery) and in international artists’ books fairs at Tate Modern (Offprint), Whitechapel Gallery (The London Art Book Fair), and the Beaux Arts, Paris.

Before this, I worked on the small team of the Oscar-nominated and BAFTA award-winning documentary feature films ‘The Act of Killing’ and ‘The Look of Silence,’ as well as working as researcher and editor on a book published by Columbia University Press. The book offers a critical understanding of the imbrications of the documentary filmic image in the memory, imagination and performance of social and political violence.

In Paris, I worked as a translator at the Committee of Ethnographic Film, founded by the celebrated French filmmaker and anthropologist Jean Rouch, and as a research assistant for the journalist Simon Kuper’s weekly column at the Financial Times.

Tutoring Experience

LONDON 2011-

I currently work with university students, BA level through to PHD. I offer one-to-one tuition and mentoring to improve their academic writing skills, provide them with structured critical feedback on their dissertations and essays, and help to develop their confidence and fluency in spoken English for international academic conferences. I have successfully prepared students for fully-funded entrance to PHD programs at American Ivy League institutions (most recently to Berkeley).

I also have a background working with Fine Art, Art History and Curatorial Studies university applicants to prepare their portfolios and familiarise them with the necessary theoretical and critical contexts for their work.

Up until 2016 (Sage Tutors), I worked with school students from Key Stage 1 upwards, preparing tutees for 11+ and 13+ entry to a range of schools (NLCS, Henrietta Barnett, Highgate, St Paul’s), as well as for entrance to Oxbridge.

TEL AVIV 2011

In Tel Aviv I taught and cared for the children of a family as a part-time nanny and English and French language tutor.

BERLIN 2010-2011

Work with adult learners as a conversation partner in English and Hebrew.

PARIS 2008-2010

In Paris I worked with professionals, with a focus on improving their English communication skills in the workplace. I have experience assisting students with public speaking, written and oral presentations, correspondence, as well as helping students to grasp cultural ‘codes’ and to speak with greater ease in both formal and informal exchanges within a business environment.

Tutoring Approach

I have over five years' experience tutoring and mentoring students of diverse nationalities, abilities and needs in five countries (U.K., France, Germany, Israel and Russia). I seek to inspire my students to develop their own unique approach to study, and to develop their confidence, ambition and curiosity.
