Having worked in education for more than 20 years I have now retired and do a mixture of consulting work and tutoring with children. I have a warm and friendly approach to all people and can guarentee that people (including children) will increase their self confidence and self esteem when learning with me.
I have spent my working life in a variety of teaching environments starting as a lecturer in further education, continuing as a general trainer and later a management consultant in public organisations. Ten years ago I applied my teaching knowledge to working with children in the one to one tutoring environment.
I believe that my job, when working with people, is to encourage and enable them to reach their full potential. There are many things that get in the way of learning and I try to find out what is hindering each person I work with and help them to get past the barrier. Working with children I find barriers like: difficulty following instructions which means not enough instruction has been received and there are large gaps in the fundamentals required for understanding work; unrecognised dyslexia; gaps in understanding that hinder progress in a particular subject; non recognition of standards of work required; missing what to pay attention to; small vocabulary and many more. My emphasis is always on the needs of the individual and what is needed to help them succeed. For others there is a need for stimulation and learning to excell in areas where they are already succeeding.
