I am a qualified Secondary English teacher who has now resigned to concentrate on tutoring.
My daughter has been through university and is now a Primary teacher herself so I have been through the education stages as a mum as well as a teacher. I have spent a lot of time with children and teenagers, in a number of capacities, so understand that "your future" can feel a long time away. I have also seen those teenagers on Results day so have experienced their highs and lows. Encouraging them to be more confident and to persevere is my focus when tutoring.
Teaching English is my passion and I love to share it On a practical level, I am fully aware of the requirements of the new curriculum and assessment. I have taught/tutored AQA, Edexcel and iGCSE.
I was a secondary school teacher of English for 10 years, including being 2/ic of the English Department. In that time I taught from year 7 up to A level. Prior to that, I was a Teaching Assistant in the English department of another school for 3 years and a general Teaching Assistant in a primary school.
As a tutor, I have successfully helped primary age children to improve their grades, tutored for Primary catch-up, 11+ and 13+ entrance, GCSE, iGCSE, GCE, International BAC and even the American College Board qualification.
I want all my students to be the best they can be which may be more than they think they can achieve. It can be intimidating to admit fears and worries in a class of 30 peers, but it is much easier in a smaller environment, away from the distractions of a large classroom. I tailor tutoring sessions to each tutee's need when I have met them and carried out an initial assessment. Weekly marking and half-termly assessment ensure that every lesson is geared towards making progress. By knowing your child as an individual, I help them to turn 'can't' into 'can'.
Tutoring can be in small groups (up to 4 students) so discounted rates will apply. Personal tuition is also available.
I will also be available to tutor during the day so welcome requests from home-schoolers.
THE HOURLY RATES QUOTED ARE FOR 1-1 TUITION. SMALL GROUP TUITION WILL BE AT A DISCOUNTED RATE.
