I live in Sutton Coldfield and I have recently retired from teaching but still mark public examination papers. My son and daughter both attended schools in Sutton, both took Maths to A level and have both graduated from Nottingham University, my son in Mechanical Engineering and my daughter in Pharmacy. My most recent CRB check was relevant to my employment up to May 2010.
I have worked as a teacher of Mathematics in comprehensive, grammar and public schools in the Midlands for over 20 years.
Throughout that time I have provided private tuition to many students from the schools local to Sutton Coldfield and helped them to achieve the examination grades that they required.
Over the same period I have worked for various examination boards, most recently OCR and EdExcel, marking GCSE, AS and A2 Mathematics.
Each individual has different needs; we must first establish what they are by identifying the desired outcomes of the tuition sessions and how we can achieve those outcomes.
Depending on the individual this may mean starting by revising work that has been covered at school over a period of time but not understood or it could be regular support with work that is currently being covered.
Understanding mathematics brings confidence and confidence leads to success.
