Media / Communication Studies
I have been passionate about media and film studies, as well as teaching and learning for many years. I really enjoy supporting students through their studies and assisting them to reach their potential. I currently work as a teacher and graphic designer on a freelance basis but have also worked in a formal educational environment. I am qualified to teach students from secondary school-age through to adulthood and enjoy working with a variety of learners. I am willing and able to tutor students in either media studies or film studies.
I worked for one academic year at Richard Huish College within the media and film studies department. I gained extensive experience of working with students in 1:1 situations on coursework and written assignments. I was responsible for tutoring a group of students falling short of their minimum target grade and was able to assist many of them in improving their approach to, and achievement in, media and film studies. I have also worked on a more freelance basis by teaching at King Alfred's School as part of their revision academy, working with small groups of students re-capping the media studies course content in the run-up to their exams and introducing revision and exam strategies.
I enjoy working with students on a 1:1 basis. I begin by discussing the student's goals and how they feel about their studies. We discuss what they hope to achieve and negotiate a plan on how to work towards these goals, and identify key areas that the student feels less confident or comfortable with. This information then forms the basis of the learning plan for the session or sessions. I keep notes on each tutoring session in order to record the progress of the student and am able to share this information with parents or guardian's if requested to do so.
