I am a PhD candidate at the University of Southampton (but living in Bristol) researching 16th Century maritime History. I graduated from the University of Bristol with a First Class Honours in History in 2014 having studied a variety of subjects including Medieval, Early Modern and Modern topics.
Between graduating in 2014 and starting my PhD in 2016, I worked the in legal sector, with a focus on Intellectual Property law.
I enjoy working with children and would be pleased provide tuition in primary, secondary or GCSE level History.
I have worked with children and young adults from 5 to 16 in various educational environments, including within the school setting and in extracurricular activities such as instructing horse riding and martial arts.
My approach to tutoring is to find a good balance between a relaxed and professional environment. I believe that it is very important that the student can feel free to ask any questions or to make any comments on the subject matter that they would like to.
It is also key to establish the ways in which an individual student best learns, to establish their strengths and weaknesses and to determine how they can most benefit from tuition. Tutoring should include both subject knowledge and exam/essay writing skills, weighted in an appropriate way for the particular student.
My foremost aim is to convey my enthusiasm and excitement for history to my students and keep tutoring sessions engaging and interesting.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!
