Hi my name is Lauren and I have recently moved to the area. I am 53 years old and my hobbies include reading, films and swimming.
I have taught for 30 years in a range of primary schools and have supported many pupils on a 1-1 home tutoring basis. I had the opportunity to complete a Reading Recovery training course which has given me a great insight into how children learn to read and I have successfully applied theses skills to support children so they become confident and fluent readers. I have also had a huge amount of phonics training and this has led to many of my pupils to successfully pass the Year 1 phonics screening check. I have a lot of experience with preparing pupils for Key Stage 1 SATs and feel confident in supporting pupils in this area. My teaching experience also has given me knowledge to support children in understanding the key concepts of mathematics.
Tutoring many pupils over the years has led me to recognise what works best to ensure positive and good outcomes. Firstly I feel it is important that the pupil feels they are working in an environment where they feel safe and secure and they can celebrate their successes as well as work on areas of need. The sessions will be based on assessing their needs and from that we can move progress forward using a wide range of strategies. I like to use practical apparatus where appropriate and really feel strongly that key understanding must be established before moving to the next step. I like the pupil to feel comfortable with me so they can take risks in their learning without worrying they may ' get it wrong'. I am sensitive to their needs, with a sense of humour but also maintaining a pupil- teacher relationship. I also have clear guidelines and expectations.
