I have extensive experience of teaching, having worked in a variety of academic environments with students of diverse backgrounds, having varying needs and abilities. The imparting of information and helping others develop, are where my greatest skills and satisfactions lie. I have a true passion for psychology and this filters down to the learners.

I have been teaching psychology since 1996 within schools, colleges, at University as well as on a one-to-one basis. With the change of syllabus I have attended a number of CPD meetings to update my awareness of assessment criteria and how best to enable learners provide answers that maximise their marks.

2000-2003 I taught Psychology and Sociology for three years at an Independent Sixth Form College in central London. Concurrently I was Psychology and Sociology tutor for the Access to Higher Education and Access to Nursing programmes at Morley College, London.
For two years I occupied a training and lecturing role within the Department of Addictive Behaviour and Psychological Medicine, St. George’s Hospital Medical School (University College London), where I had a key role in terms of managing training on a range of aspects of addictive behaviour within the Healthcare Trust. In addition I taught on various aspects of Psychology within the Health Sciences Faculty. I also acted as personal tutor to a number of students, many of whom were from overseas.
In 1997 I held a full-time fixed term post as Lecturer in Health Psychology within the Faculty of Health Studies (Buckinghamshire University College), where I now hold an Honorary Lecturer role.
I have tutored at private Sixth Form Colleges, including MPW College, the Duff Miller College and Lansdowne College, all based in London, particularly during the Easter Revision Courses.
I try to find out a little about the learners learning style as this informs what works best for the learner and how to approach the tutoring time. Frameworks, visual aids, etc. are best for visual learners.
I aim to have a good rappoire with the learner and encourage the learner to be open and honest from the start about their hopes, weak areas and stronger ones. Start with the larger picture and work towards the focal points. Tutoring does not end with the one hour session as I keep in touch with tutees during the week via e-mail offering additional handouts, visual aids and feedback on home learning tasks.
