Government and Politics
I am 32 years old and have been actively engaged in the fields of sociology and politics since my teenage years. For example, I conducted primary research in Thailand on Burmese Civil Society and Education as part of my Masters in International Development and Education. I attend university public lecturers and conferences in areas such as; Human Rights; International Development; War, Peace and Ethics; British Politics; American Politics, amongst many more. I thoroughly enjoying keeping-up-to-date with current affairs and exploring their relationship to sociological and political theory.
I have over ten years of teaching experience, predominantly in AS and A2 Sociology and Government and Politics. During that time I have worked with a plethora of students, each with specific individual learning needs. I also work as an examiner for Edexcel A-Level Government and Politics and AQA A-Level Sociology which has provided me with essential knowledge and understanding of assessment criteria. As I know exactly what examiners are looking for, how to achieve the maximum marks and how to ensure students meet the requirements. I also have experience teaching Primary school children especially in KS1 SATS preparation and assessment.
From working in various educational institutions and across all key stages for example as a Primary teacher, A-Level History teacher I am extremely competent in understanding the curriculum requirements and providing tuition across a range of subjects and age ranges.
I also have a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and experience teaching English as a Foreign Language in Thailand in a Primary school and a local Temple and within various local councils in the North East to adult learners.
My teaching approach is focused on three key areas: 1. Discussion based learning methods 2. Emphasis on how to meet the written exam criteria 3. Relating political and sociological theory to current affairs. I am flexible and able to adapt to meet the needs of different students, whilst ensuring students are fully engaged. My ability to successfully relate to students creating a safe and positive learning environment has been noted continuously throughout my career. This stems from my belief in supporting students to develop their independent skills to form reasoned arguments and engage in society.
