Laura

My name is Dr Laura Removed(MBBS, MRCEM, BSc(Hons)). I am an Emergency Medicine doctor working within the NHS. I have been working as a doctor for the past 6 years within hospitals in London and my current post is an ST3 in Emergency Medicine at St George's Hospital. During my training thus far I have worked within a variety of specialties including: Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, Elderly Care Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Haematology and Emergency Medicine. I graduated from university with 4 distinctions and prizes for performance in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and clinical and communication skills. I also hold a national award presented from the Royal Society of Medicine and have been awarded a first class honours degree in neuroscience and mental health from Imperial College London.

I have always been an enthusiastic learner and, when given the opportunity, thoroughly enjoy teaching. I have 7 years of tuition experience and have had a number of students over the years who I have helped excel in their studies.

After successfully completing medical school, one of the main subjects which I offer for tuition is medicine. I can provide tuition for different aspects of the medical school curriculum including OSCEs, anatomy and academic performance in exams. I have completed a number of exams included MRCP part 1 and part 2, MRCEM primary, intermediate and MRCEM OSCE and the MSRA achieving a score > 600. I can provide support for all of these exams including medical school finals. Additionally, I am an OSCE examiner for healthcare students and, with my own personal experience with OSCEs, can use this skill to help improve progress. I have had a number of students who I have tutored for OSCEs who have gone on to pass their exams.

I currently hold a post at University as a communication skills and clinical skills tutor and teach medical students relevant clinical skills needed for general educational development for ward-based activities and examinations. It is a fulfilling job which I plan to continue to hold.

My other main subject areas are Mathematics and Biology. However, I also offer other subjects, including Chemistry and English all of which I excelled at GCSE-level (and at A-level for Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics). Should you require any other additional subjects, please do not hesitate to contact me and we can discuss those further. I always aim to provide teaching whenever I can, and I am willing to review the curriculum.

I have experience with medical school and training application interviews. I have played an active role in undergraduate admissions and medical student interviews and can provide preparation and practice for you. I can also offer help with obtaining a university placement, including proofreading personal statements and interview technique. This can extend to students seeking help with personal statements and UCAS applications in other subject areas and those who need help with their CV.

I am a very friendly and approachable person. Whatever the query, please feel free to contact me. I am very passionate about teaching and I will always try my best to facilitate teaching for everyone.

In terms of the teaching that I offer, when it comes to one-to-one teaching, my priority is you. I will provide an initial free 30 minute consultation session (either in person, online or over the phone) to get to know you. During this consultation, I plan to discuss the curriculum and set realistic goals based on what you want to gain and what I believe we can achieve over time.

Once I have this information, I will carefully put together lesson plans which will be specifically tailored for each individual pupil. Throughout our teaching sessions I plan to identify areas requiring improvement and will adapt my lesson plans appropriately. To help make this possible are my excellent organisation and time-keeping skills, since so far I have managed to overachieve at university level with multiple part-time jobs.

To assess progress and facilitate learning, I will also be providing regular homework to be completed. I believe that practising examination technique is crucial for pupils to excel in subject areas.

Feedback I have received (from other sources):

"I had the best OSCE sessions with Dr Laura Parry prior to my exams. She delivered excellent teachings using her collective years of experience working as ED doctor. She teaches with an intent to help everyone to excel in their exams. I would not have passed the final year medical school OSCEs without her help. I would highly recommend medical students to practice communication skills with Laura." - Pairoj Thurdnampetch, St George's Medical School, August 2023.

Tutoring Experience

Currently, I have 6 years of in-house teaching experience at university, where I regularly teach medical and healthcare university students in the years below. Topic areas include basic physiology, anatomy and clinical science. I am also an active clinical skills and communication skills tutor. I am an OSCE examiner and write medicine-based exam questions.

Over the last 5 years, I have tutored a number of students and watched them excel at their examinations. Recently I have tutored final-year medical students with their OSCEs and watched them thrive and pass with scores over 80%.
