Personal Description:

I'm Laura, and I'm currently studying a Masters in the Psychology of Education at the University of Bristol. I am half French half English, and have a degree in Psychology from the University of Exeter. I've just spent the past year travelling South East Asia and Australia, whilst also being a teaching assistant. Having lived in France from the age of 5, I am fluent in both English and French, and I speak a good level of Spanish. I have always grown up around education, my mum being a language teacher, and I regularly volunteer at local French schools.

Tutoring Experience:

From the age of 16, I tutored pupils in GCSE level French, resulting in As. During my undergraduate degree, whenever I returned to France, I volunteered as a French teaching assistant at L'Ancienne Ecole in St Colomb de Lauzun, an exam centre and school for those wishing to complete GCSE, iGCSE and A-level courses. Further to the completion of my undergraduate degree, I took a break in my studies. Returning to L'Ancienne Ecole I took on a more varied role. I assisted in summer holiday workshops, with activities ranging from visual arts, drama, dance and language sharing. From September, my role changed to a full time teaching assistant. On Wednesdays, I would assist in a language workshop called Wordy Wednesday for 5 to 11 year olds. During my months abroad, I volunteered at Julia Creek Primary School, a state school in the outback in Northern Queensland, Australia.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that all students have the capacity to thrive, however large classes means individual needs can often be overlooked. When learning a language, practice is key, and conversation is essential in developing and maintaining a good level. At a higher level, my approach to tutoring is centred around grounding pupils' understanding of the mechanics and structure of the language, whilst engaging in conversation in order to practice. At a lower level, vocabulary enhancement and homework help is of focus.
