Personal Description:

I'm a primary school teacher who has taught for 4 years across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I am a calm, kind and fair teacher who puts children's needs at the heart of everything I do, ensuring my patience and clear explanations mean the children I teach feel secure in their learned knowledge. I am currently working as a Year 2 teacher at a primary school in Streatham.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught across Key Stages 1 and 2 since 2012, when I passed my PGCE with 'Outstanding' features (Warwick University). I initially specialised in leading a SEND (special educational needs) nurture class; this was excellent teaching experience as I had to ensure that my explanations were especially clear. My teaching style developed as kind, patient and resourceful, able to easily spot when children weren't understanding concepts and change tack, using concrete resources or objects to simplify learning. I learned that it was incredibly important to boost young people's self esteem in order for them to thrive academically.

After 2 years, I moved to a teaching school where I had a mixed ability class. My calm and thorough approach meant that I was able to contribute to the school's national teaching school status; this meant teachers from across the country would come and observe my teaching of Writing lessons to take away ideas to drive up standards in their own schools. I was also filmed for 'Maths Mastery' with my Year 4 class as I thought of inventive and fun ways to improve mental maths recall (through songs and active games).

Since working for the charity, I have taught in numerous schools across Tower Hamlets, meaning sometimes I only see children once or twice. I am now confident when working with new groups of children and able to identify gaps in their knowledge. I have also been far more involved with parents and enhancing parental engagement, which is a key factor in children's attainment.

Additionally, I am a governor at Elm Court School, a school for children with additional learning needs, meaning I am staying abreast of special educational needs policy alongside my thought leadership work on primary education at the charity.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will be to make the pupil feel safe and secure in our learning environment. I will ensure the pupil feels at ease with any gaps in their knowledge so they can successfully bridge the gap between their home and school learning. I will utilise my wide range of teaching methods to select which works best and motivates each individual pupil (there's not a one size fits all policy!). I will be patient and focused and debrief with the parent or guardian at the end of sessions as parental engagement is key to success.
