Media / Communication Studies
I have a fun approach to learning using some of my own tricks and secrets to aid exam success. I like to make the subjects fun and interesting and approach learning from the way students see things and move them on at their own speed. I like to empower my students to give them confidence with their studies and make them feel able to succeed. I think learning is exciting and I hope to allow my students to feel excited about their own learning. I believe in success and I think this starts with motivation, I find it fun to identify what motivates students and use this to create fun and interesting lessons.
I have been teaching English and Media studies in a high achieving Secondary School for 3 years where I have had enormous grade success with very talented A Level students, some of whom gained places at Oxford and Cambridge with new A* grades, as well as D/C borderline GCSE students. During this time I have become an Examiner with AQA for English GCSE and know what examiners are looking for to award the all important C grade and the A* too! Before Secondary education I taught English and Communications to Adult learners in Further Education and this was rewarding and exciting allowing adults to gain skills in English and Literature to change their career paths and their futures. My first teaching post was teaching A Levels in Theatre Studies and English Language and Literature and I had some excellent exam success with 100% pass rates and 50% top grades. I also have experience teaching drama at Stagecoach to ages 7-16 and I have developed many different games for young performers to aid confidence and performance skills. I like to bring some performance tasks to academic study to increase success and motivation.
I like to make learning fun and interesting and I use tricks I have learned as an examiner and as a grade 1 classroom practitioner. I like to find out what motivates students and to utilise this to create success and achievement. I think it is important to make studying accessible to all by identifying learning styles and individual's needs and changing the approaches to study. I want students to feel excited about learning by spending time on a one to one level and providing them with strategies to access the curriculum. I am known to use visual and kinaesthetic tools to help make classroom study more interesting.
