I am dedicated to continual professional development. I love travelling and learning new things. I have travelled around to many places and would love to travel more. As I enjoy travelling I think it is important to learn different languages. So I have taken language courses and I feel this helps me to improve my teaching skills also as I learn different ways of manipulating language.
I am currently a primary school teacher with 14 years of experience. I have an MA in English Education, PGCE specialising in Early years (3- 5) and KS1 (5-7) and a CELTA in teaching Adults English as a foreign language. I have worked in many London based schools as well as in Marrakech and Oviedo, Spain. I also worked for a year as a supply teacher teaching within many London based schools which has allowed me to develop my teaching and behaviour management skills within different environments. This also allowed me to become adaptable to different situations and experiences. I have experience with children where English is not their first language as I worked in Spain for a month as part of my teacher training. Here I taught English as a foreign language, Maths in Spanish and Spanish Grammar.
Whilst working a primary school teacher I have taught many children on a one to one basis especially in phonics and English in order to improve their English skills.
I will adapt the way I tutor according to the needs of the student. If the student is studying for an exam I will be very structured with my tutoring to teach in a way that will support the student to pass their exams. If the student is studying as they have fallen behind then I will first assess the student to find gaps in the students knowledge and find ways to fill those gaps. If a student is particularly gifted and needs to be challenged I will find ways to challenge the student to take them out of their comfort zone. This should all be done in a way to support the student in becoming an independent learner with a love of learning.
While teaching I should find ways to teach the student taking into account that students learn in different ways. Some students respond more to kinaesthetic (movement), aural (listening) or visual styles of learning. I will teach the student with a combination of these styles so that the students learns to respond to different ways of learning.
