This is how 3 referees rated Kirsty:
Hi, my name is Kirsty, I am 32 and I achieved a Distinction in a Master of Science in Operational Research (with is a branch of mathematics) and a First Class Honours in Mathematics from the University of Southampton. I have a full time job in Central London working in a business strategy role and am offering tutoring in my spare time. I have always found satisfaction from the fact that Mathematics is a subject that has a correct answer, and it is therefore always possible to master! However, I understand that is is not always that easy. I am very approachable and understanding and I want to help give other people more confidence in their ability to grasp mathematics.
I am relatively new to tutoring - I have tutored one A level student in mathematics who, having previously failed her AS level managed to pass. I have also tutored at GCSE level on an ad-hoc basis to help a family friend who was struggling with a few concepts. She subeequently achieved an A in her GCSE.
I believe that everyone is capable of mastering mathematics, but also understand that many people struggle to get their head around some of the more difficult to grasp concepts. I am a firm believer that the main problem people have with mathematics is confidence. As a tutor, I will focus on building confidence by celebrating success and getting students to do a lot of practice so they know what they can do.
With each mathematical topic, I will work with the student to find an approach, and then go through many practice questions. This will ensure that they have a grasp of the concept and the method, before moving onto practice exam questions.
