Personal Description:

Artist and Tutor

I work as both artist and teacher and can help with all issues of creativity; practical and academic. I have taught a wide range of students in their studies and love seeing how they can evolve and develop way past anything they expected.

I have taught students practical work; from idea development and concepts, to outcomes in disciplines such as traditional and digital photography, graphics design, painting and drawing, 3D design and sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, textiles and computer design. I have taught academic dissertation writing skills from GCSE to undergraduate level. I have been a personal tutor and instructed students on applying to university, writing UCAS statements, preparing online and ‘real’ portfolios, completing short projects and art and design interviews.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught in schools as art and design tutor, teaching national curriculum art and design to Key Stage 3, GCSE Art & Design and Photography to KS4, and General Art, Photography and Art History at A Level.

I have taught and assessed BTEC Art & Design courses at Level 2 and Level 3, and the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, Level 3/4. I have taught photography, graphics, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, 3D, art history as well as tutorial skills and personal development.

I have taught students in creating portfolios, applying for jobs and universities, essay and statement writing, alongside their academic studies.

I can also assist with GCSE and A Level humanities and psychology, and basic English and ICT skills.

In my last three internal and external observations, I have been rated ‘outstanding’.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the most important thing with education is to build a strong and respectful relationship with the learner, this enables me to understand them and how they learn and to tailor make lessons and instructions to their particular strengths whilst also addressing areas for improvement.

I have high expectations of students and work with them to achieve these. I am considerate of the individual needs and address the learning so they can find their own strengths and excel.
