I am an enthusiastic chemist, having completed my PhD studies in 2014 in biological chemistry and currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Strathclyde. I have also obtained an honors degree in Forensic Chemistry also from the University of Strathclyde.
Since starting my PhD studies in October 2010 I have been a laboratory demonstrator/tutor to first year undergraduate university students. This involves meeting with a group of students once a week and helping them carry out chemistry experiments and helping them with any experimental problems or coursework problems. The university also organises "school fun labs" which involves higher level school pupils coming to the university labs and taking part in several experiments, I have also been involved with this.
Thinking of my own approach to studying, my revision mainly focused on answering past paper questions and becoming familiar with the exam format. When tutoring I will first discuss the various topics of the course and pin point the areas where most help is needed. From there I will go through past paper questions related to these areas until the student becomes more confident with the learning material. As mentioned above, I am an enthusiastic chemist and it is my own personal goal to show students that chemistry is not difficult but a subject where you will learn about amazing ideas and interesting facts.
